Mitchell Falls is another popular attraction in Western Australia's Kimberley region. It is accessible by land and air - but the air option is much preferable. The land option involves a relatively short (1-2 hour hike) but also a 6-8 hour 4x4 drive in each direction off a paved highway. The helicopter option is less than 30 minutes, depending on where you get the helicopter. Our helictopter flight started out of Swift Bay where the Coral Expedition dropped us off. This photo is in August - well into the dry season. The falls will most likely stop for the season and were much larger early in the dry season. There are hiking trails that lead to the base of the falls but tourists are asked not to swim in the pools as it is a sacred aboriginal site. There are swimming options, in croc-free water, higher up near the helicopter landing.
