Wandjina Rock Art - Swift Bay

Wandjina Rock art gained worldwide attention as part of the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics in 2000. The Wandjina are reation beings and call for water in the dry season. The head dress means clouds. Wandjina figures do not have a mouth - I understand there are two reasons for this, that they are do-ers, not talkers and to prevent the rain from running out.

The Wandjina Gallery at Swift Bay displays a range of art including Wandjina humanoids, lizards, crocodiles, oystercatchers and turtles.
