Saltwater Crocodile Emerging From the South Alligator River

It's impressive how the crocodile can raise or lower itself in water without any bubbles. You're watching open water and all of a sudden a head emerges, followed by a nose and maybe a back.

I got a bit lucky with this one. On the Yellow Water cruise, we saw dozens of crocodiles in a two hour trip along the Yellow Water billabong and South Alligator River. As the group was focused on the other side of the boat at yet another croc resting on the side of the river, I turned to the inside of the river and saw this fellow emerge! Fresh out of the water there is an interesting "wet" look to them.

I saw at least as many crocs on the two hour curise in Kakadu as in a week and a half cruising the Kimberley coast. This fellow was in the South Alligator River portion of the cruise. The River was mis-named by Philip Parker King and in the years that passed, the difficulty in changing the name to the "Crocodile River" hardly made accuracy being worthwhile.
