Spring on The North Saskatchewan River

Spring has been here for about two weeks. It might not really feel like it but this weekend has warmed up a little bit. You can see there is still a heavy cover of ice over the North Saskatchewan. After last fall's photographs of Sydney and Brisbane at night, I'd realized that I don't have many night photos of Edmonton that I really like. So that was the objective! The trouble with night photographs in Edmonton is that in the winter when we have 16 hours of darknes, it's very cold when you're out standing around making long exposures. But in the summer, it doens't get dark until very late at night! After putting this off all winter, I found a spring evening to get out and take some shots. This is Edmonton's most famous bridge, the High Level. Just beside it is Edmonton's first LRT bridge. The photo has some small significance in that the High Level will be receiving its lights later this summer. The great black structure in Edmonton's skyline wil get a whole new look. If it turns out to be anythng like the Storey Bridge at night, that will be impressive.
