T Minus four hours. The clouds form over the Tonquin Valley contributing to a scary look to Dungeon Peak and the Ramparts. We stayed at Maccarib camp the first night and took a short walk towards Amethyst Lake and the trail heading to one of the luxury accomodations the horse pack trips take you to. There is a trail marked with orange flags across a bog - the flags are spread apart and difficult to see - I found myself looking only one flag ahead. The trail takes you to the edge of Amethyst Lake. Set your tripod up and hope it doesn't sink slowly into the ground! The Tonquin valley is a wide, grand space - take a wide lens and even then combine a few shots to get the full panorama effect. After safely back in the camp and safely in the tent, a pitter patter of rain started. I expected the temperature to drop to zero and maybe a few flakes of snow would appear. A few flakes turned into a few inches. By the next morning, if you stood out in the bog by Amethyst Lake, you'd be standing in a fog bowl. You'd probably get lost heading out there and find yourself deep in the water!
