Red Deer River with Fall Colours
Some wild rock formations near Drumheller along the Red Deer River Valley - layers of coal and sandstone in the rolling hills lining the valley. The area is full of old coal mines which were in use throughout the 20th century. A small plaque near the Hoo Doos mentions a former United Farmers of Alberta premier negotiating Alberta's mineral and resource rights away from the federal government and Alberta reaping the riches of coal.
This photo is near East Coulee where there is an abandoned mining town turned into a museum. There are many small tourist exhibits in the Drumheller area making it a nice place for a family vacation. Many people were also down on the banks for the river fishing.
