Nitinat Narrows - Infrared

The mid-point of the West Coast Trail, Nitinat Narrows. The kilometre just before the narrows (from the north) was very difficult. At one point, we climbed "a wall of mud". It looked like the wall did have some ladders at one point, but they were abandoned in the trees beside the trail. Basically, put your feet on some roots and grab other roots with your hands and try not to get too full of mud. It must have been a ten metre upward slope. I wish I had taken a photo of the "wall of mud!".

The Nitinat Narrows require a boat to cross. The fellows who run the boat also run a set of cabins on the south side of the narrows where you can stay for a fishing trip. And the fishing is good - they also run a restraunt where for 25$ you can have crab or salmon. The section south of the narrows is a boardwalk - parts good, parts falling apart. Then there is a pleasant flat section near the Cheewhat River where you can move very quickly. Then the final section before Cribs is a very rooty (but not too muddy) section.
